“It takes a village to raise a child”
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we come to the end of our Christmas term at Koru School, we reflect proudly on the achievements, creativity and community spirit shown by our students. It has been a busy, joyful and successful term for all.
Highlights of the Term
Remembrance Day
Koru School marked Remembrance Day with maturity and respect. Students took part in class reflections, produced thoughtful artwork and joined together for a 2-minute silence to honour those who have served. Their behaviour was exemplary and deeply moving.
Children in Need: RSHE Posters, Bingo & Pyjama Day
Students learned about Children in Need during their RSHE lessons, exploring what the charity does and how it supports young people across the UK. After learning about the cause, students created bright, meaningful posters to raise awareness and share positive messages around kindness, support and community.
We also celebrated Children in Need with:
– Children in Need Bingo
– Pyjama Dress-Up Day

Annual Christmas Panto Trip
Koru students attended our annual Christmas panto, this year enjoying ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Queens Theatre. We were incredibly proud of their maturity, excellent behaviour and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see every student having such a fantastic time and representing Koru School so well.
Creative & Cultural Events
The term has been rich in creativity—from creating Christmas cards which have been hand delivered to our local care home to our winter art activities as well as Christmas tree decorating and festive displays.
Festive Fun Across Koru
– Christmas Jumper Day – Christmas Lunch
– Craft workshops

Christmas Lunch Table Decorations
Students across Koru designed and made beautiful handmade table decorations for our annual Christmas lunch, bringing warmth and sparkle to the hall.

Weekly Celebration Assemblies
Celebrating Our Students
We proudly recognise our students for their academic progress, kindness, resilience, empathy, attendance and extracurricular achievements.
Koru’s weekly celebration assemblies are bursting with joy as we cheer on our students’ achievements and progress! Our ‘Headteachers Award” this term goes to our wonderful year 10 student AC. AC embodies the Koru ethos, spreading empathy, kindness and resilience in class and beyond. AC has also received the most amount of positive praise points this half term! We’re so proud of you, AC—keep shining!
Winning Form for Praise Points
This year, we’re turning up the fun by celebrating students’ achievements with some super rewards! Form groups have teamed up this term, working hard in lessons and showing off our school’s ethos of kindness, resilience, and empathy to win a special form time breakfast with their form tutors. The champions this term are our youngest form group Dunedin! Check them out enjoying their well-deserved festive celebration breakfast along with their proud form tutors Kirsty and Hayley—fantastic job, everyone!

We wish all students who are celebrating a birthday during the festive holidays a wonderful time.
