Careers
KS4
KS4 students are timetabled to have 2 hours of careers lessons per week, as well as an important 1-2-1 with an external careers advisor who is trained at level 6. Our students will also have dedicated sessions to complete applications and a CV before the end of year 11. Our KS4 students will follow a similar lesson pattern to our KS3’s. They will learn to identify their skills and areas for development, as well as, exploring career paths of current and future jobs. We will also look at mental health and how to manage it as a working adult.
KS3
In KS3, students at Koru have the opportunity to engage in 1 lesson of careers education per week. In these lessons, the focus is on exploring pathways to jobs that our students may not know existed, in order to broaden their horizons. Our students also complete tasks which describe key skills for employed life, help individual students to identify their own skills as well as areas for development. Our careers curriculum involves varying types of lessons; incorporating book learning, careers-based games/roleplaying as well as trips and visitors which gives our students real world experiences of the workplace.
