English

English is an exciting and challenging core subject. At Koru, the functional skills for English are promoted in every aspect of school life.  In Key Stage 3, students have the opportunity to study a range of texts from a variety of different genres, both fiction and non-fiction. Key Stage 3 English prepares students for the future, preparing them to study for a GCSE and/or Functional Skills. It also teaches them core skills such as letter writing, analysing newspapers and other writing skills.

At Key Stage 4, the majority of students will study a range of fiction and non-fiction texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries in preparation for the AQA English Language and Literature GCSE.  Some students will study Functional Skills, Level 1 and/or 2.

Enrichment activities across the English Department

It is the aim of the English department that all students should get the opportunity to take part in as many different English and literacy related activities as possible. These include trips to the theatre – students have recently enjoyed a trip to see ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘Jekyll and Hyde’.
